Awards
ALOC supports recognizing professionalism and excellence in public service in its members and other public service lawyers. ALOC jointly sponsors two awards, the Carol Creighton Award for Contribution to Public Law and the Tom Marshall Award for Excellence by a Public Sector Lawyer.
The Carol Creighton Award for Contribution to Public Law
The Carol Creighton Award for Contribution to Public Law recognizes an outstanding government lawyer for exemplary contribution to public service and the profession. It is sponsored jointly by ALOC and the Ministry of the Attorney General. More on the Carol Creighton Award.
The Ontario Bar Association Tom Marshall Award for Excellence by a Public Sector Lawyer
The Ontario Bar Association introduced the Tom Marshall Award for Excellence by a Public Sector Lawyer. This award recognizes excellence by a public sector lawyer in any level of government, crown corporation, legal aid office or clinic, public statutory body, or board, agency or commission. Tom Marshall was a past President of the Ontario Bar Association and prior to his retirement, an ALOC member working at Crown Law Office Civil at the Ministry of the Attorney General. EXCELSIOR Award
The EXCELSIOR Awards Program is a Ministry of the Attorney General initiative recognizing the contributions of Ministry staff who go to extraordinary lengths to serve the public. Awards are made for both individual and team contributions, efforts and achievements in one of the following four categories: Excellence in Teamwork, Innovation, Outstanding Achievement and Quality Customer Service.

Ametheyst Award
The Ametheyst Award recognizes outstanding achievements by members of the Ontario Public Service. These are people who have extended themselves, whether in creating a whole new way of delivering a service, developing time and money-saving technology, or showing extraordinary professionalism and care in performing their daily tasks. The Mark J. Freiman Book Prize in Public Law
The Mark J. Freiman Book Prize in Public Law is open to all Ministry of the Attorney General incoming articling students. Interested students are required to submit a paper related to public law usually in April prior to articles. The paper may be one that the student had previously prepared as part of his or her studies, or can be written specifically to address an area of interest arising out of employment with the Ministry. The recipient of the award receives a book prize and will have his or her name engraved on a plaque to be displayed in the Ministry of the Attorney General Law Library.
